Introducing the 2017-18 World We Want CA Legislative Agenda!

This year we will be focusing on a slate of 11 bills before the California Legislature centered around five vulnerable populations: immigrants and refugees; victims of hate and bias (including religious minorities and LGBTQ people); those in danger of losing health care and facing diminished reproductive rights; communities of color (especially in relationship to the criminal justice system); and all of us who are vulnerable around environmental justice and climate change. As Brit Olam Congregations (Covenant for the World We Want), you can work on the whole slate or focus on whichever of these bills most resonates with your community. Reform CA has also set a state-wide goal for congregations to hold 50 meetings by May 15 with State Senators and Assembly Members to build support for the World We Want CA Legislative Agenda. Set up meetings with your state representatives now - legislators’ calendars fill up quickly! To identify or confirm your local representatives, use this tool. 

While you are calling your State Senator to set up a meeting, ask them to support The California Values Act (SB 54), which comes up for a vote on Monday. This bill rejects the federal deportation and criminalization machine, and pushes Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of our communities by preventing state and local resources to aid ICE in deportation actions.
