Washington, D.C., September 14, 2016 – On Tuesday, a new Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel was announced. The new aid package ensures $38 billion of assistance to Israel over 10 years and represents an increased commitment from the $30 billion the U.S. guaranteed Israel in the 2007 MOU. In response, Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, released the following statement:
“On behalf of the Reform Jewish Movement, we welcome the new Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel providing for continued military aid to Israel. We are pleased that this MOU reflects both countries' reaffirmation of their vital relationship. U.S. funding is integral to Israel’s security and regional stability. The American goal of realizing a safer, more secure world is strengthened through an ongoing and deep relationship with Israel, the United States' premiere ally in the Middle East."
