Urge Congress to Pass the Respect for Marriage Act
The Respect for Marriage Act formally repeals the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), codifies marriage equality for same-sex and interracial couples, and establishes additional legal protections for marriage equality. Even though various Supreme Court rulings currently make these rights the law of the land, the recent decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization and Justice Thomas’ concurring opinion make clear the need for Congress to codify these rights into law.
Tell Congress to Cosponsor Legislation to Research and Develop Reparations for Slavery and Systemic Racism
The ongoing wounds of slavery and more than four centuries of entrenched racial oppression continues to impact American society. Systemic disparities and injustices will endure unless proactive steps are taken to acknowledge and eliminate them. One way to address this is through the study and development of reparations proposals. Urge your elected officials to cosponsor the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act.
Urge your Senators to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act
The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act would restore critical protections against racially discriminatory laws and move us toward a democracy that responds to the needs and priorities of voters. The right to vote is fundamental in a democracy and we must ensure that elections are accessible for all by passing this critical piece of legislation. As Americans continue to face barriers to exercise their right to vote, we must take steps to ensure that every voice is heard, and elections reflect the will of the people.
Tell Congress to End Discrimination Against Pregnant Workers
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (H.R. 1065) would require employers to provide reasonable, temporary accommodations to pregnant workers so that they can remain in the workforce throughout their pregnancies.
Urge Congress to pass a living wage
The cost of living in the United States has long eclipsed the minimum wage. At $7.25 per hour, an employee who is working 40 hours per week, 52 weeks a year, earns only $15,080.
Require Universal Background Checks on all Gun Sales
The vast majority of Americans, including gun owners, support common-sense policies like background checks for every gun sale to prevent senseless violence. As Reform Jews, it is our duty to demand that Congress take action to pass gun legislation and save countless innocent lives.
Urge Congress to Support Environmental Justice for All
For decades, environmental justice leaders have advocated for equal protection from environmental hazards, equal access to environmental benefits, and meaningful involvement in environmental decision-making processes. The Environmental Justice for All Act (S.872/H.R. 2021) would take landmark steps to realize that vision.
Tell Congress and the Biden Administration to Restore Asylum
Over 2 million asylum seekers have been expelled since the pandemic started. Title 42 used the guise of public health to prevent people from legally seeking refuge in the U.S. Although the CDC announced plans to end the policy, some members of Congress are trying to keep it in place. This has been a stain on American immigration policy for far too long. Tell your Members of Congress to oppose any efforts to reinstate Title 42. It is time to end this unjust policy.
Tell Congress: Prohibit Discrimination Against LGBTQ+ People
Currently, federal law does not explicitly prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, federal funding, education, credit, and jury selection based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Equality Act would amend existing civil rights laws to protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination.
Protect Access to Abortion
The Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 2975/S. 165) takes crucial steps towards protecting access to abortion by prohibiting the countless regulations, bans, and restrictions that prevent people from accessing the reproductive health care they need.
